Evaluation by M Dover of SCAU in advance of office redevelopment. No firm dating evidence was recovered from the features that were revealed, but the large amounts of calcined flint and burnt clay fragments indicate that some are likely to be of prehistoric origin. The sterile nature and appearance of the fills of the other features point to a post-medieval date.

Evaluation by N Shaikhley of SCAU revealed the presence of a possible palaeochannel.

Evaluation by G Hayman of SCAU in advance of further mineral extraction at the former Runfold Farm Pit revealed a number of features containing material of prehistoric and Roman date. Further work is planned in the areas that produced archaeological material.

Watching brief by R Poulton of SCAU revealed that modern disturbance is likely to have removed any near surface archaeology, and the proposed redevelopment would not involve any excavations that would impact on any deep deposits.

Watching brief by J Stevenson of SCAU during groundworks on extensions and alterations to the building. The work exposed post-medieval parts of the building, including a chalk floor, and following on from the work of P Gray and A Hughes (345), a photographic record of the interior was produced.

Watching brief carried out by N Shaikhley of SCAU during redevelopment on the neighbouring property to `Hillview’ and the builder’s yard, revealed the site to have been sufficiently disturbed to have removed any archaeological remains which may once have existed.

Evaluation by J Robertson of SCAU in advance of the creation of a new mooring basin revealed evidence of some levelling, and no finds or features of archaeological interest.

Watching brief by N Shaikhley of SCAU during excavation of two soakaways did not identify any features, but a number of stray human bones and a few complete burials were recovered and later reburied.

Continuing monitoring work by J Stevenson of SCAU in an area located immediately to the south of previous work undertaken in 1999 and 2000. The more securely dated features include: a Neolithic pit containing a complete Ebbsfleet bowl; several mid--Late Bronze Age pits; a small Iron Age pit containing nothing but a complete triangular loomweight; three sides of an enclosure of prehistoric date; the right-angled corner of a Roman enclosure, leading towards an area of concentrated Roman activity identified previously, and some middle Saxon pits.
