Research

The Society encourages research into the history and archaeology of the County of Surrey. This includes: excavation, fieldwork, surveys,  documentary research, conservation of material of archaeological or historic interest and any other activity which will further the Society's aims and objectives.

The Research Committee was formed in 2009 and is responsible for:

  • The Surrey Research Framework
  • Research projects run by the Society
  • Supporting external projects
  • Administration of grants for these purposes
  • Organising the Annual Research Symposium
  • Organising the Annual Spring Symposium
  • Awarding the Margary Award for Archaeological Achievement

The aims of the committee are to foster and support the research process to ensure that research is one of the main activities of the Society. The provision of skills training and the fostering of co-operation between committees in order to maximise the considerable achievements of the various groups of the Society is part of this policy and the Committee will use its ability to offer grants to support these aims
