Evaluation and excavation by S Weaver and J Saunders of TVAS, for HBG Properties, of a site to be redeveloped for warehousing, did not reveal evidence for the barrows mentioned in this vicinity in the Merstham boundary charter of 947 AD. The evaluation did reveal a number of dateable pits and ditches indicating the presence of a late Iron Age / early Roman settlement. One of the features was initially thought to represent part of a curvilinear boundary ditch, but the subsequent excavation illustrated that this was one of two rectilinear ditches on the site.

Fieldwalking and topsoil seiving by P Harp and Plateau has recovered a large number of worked flints of Mesolithic, Neolithic, and Bronze Age date, some Bronze Age, Iron Age, Romano-British, and medieval pot, and a medieval knight finial fragment. (317, 319, 323, 324)

Watching brief by R Poulton and S Hind of SCAU, for Sutton & East Surrey Water Company, on the groundworks associated with the construction of a water pipeline between Buckland and Lower Kingswood. No features of archaeological significance were revealed. However, a small amount of worked flints was recovered, including some of probable Mesolithic or Neolithic date.

Metal detector and walkover survey directed by D Graham of SyAS, following tree felling and ground scraping by Surrey Wildlife Trust. A small quantity of flintwork was found, including a Neolithic oblique arrowhead, and a small amount of probable prehistoric pottery. Metal detecting produced the blade of a bronze axe, probably the broken tip of a palstave axe. (339)

Continuing monitoring work by J Stevenson of SCAU in an area located immediately to the south of previous work undertaken in 1999 and 2000. The more securely dated features include: a Neolithic pit containing a complete Ebbsfleet bowl; several mid--Late Bronze Age pits; a small Iron Age pit containing nothing but a complete triangular loomweight; three sides of an enclosure of prehistoric date; the right-angled corner of a Roman enclosure, leading towards an area of concentrated Roman activity identified previously, and some middle Saxon pits.

Evaluation and subsequent excavation by T Carew of PCA in advance of the construction of a new prison. A palaeochannel, probably dating to the late glacial to early post-glacial period, cut through the centre of the excavated area. A probable early Mesolithic flint blade was recovered from near the channel, although it was found in a later context. The earliest of the cut features was a pit with a probable placed deposit of early Neolithic flintwork. This was adjacent to a middle to Late Neolithic ring ditch, interpreted as either a hengiform monument or a barrow.

Watching brief and subsequent excavation by J Robertson of SCAU of an Early Bronze Age ring ditch, probably originally surrounding a barrow. Two inhumations were found at the base of the ditch, and Neolithic flintwork, Roman ditches, and Saxon pits were also discovered. (355)

Continuing excavation and fieldwalking by Plateau recovered further finds of worked flint of Lower Palaeolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age date, while pottery dating to the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Romano-British, Saxon, medieval and post-medieval periods was also found. A large Neolithic or Bronze Age leaf-shaped arrowhead and a probable Bronze Age pendant were among the finds. Features on the site included a probable late Roman farmstead enclosure, and a Mesolithic tree-throw pit shelter with rubbish pit.

Evaluation by S Anthony of TVAS in advance of residential redevelopment revealed only modern features, a few scattered struck flints of Neolithic or Bronze Age date, and a tiny piece of abraded, unidentifiable pottery.

Continuing monitoring and excavation by G Hayman of SCAU in the area located to the south of previous work undertaken during the previous three years. This phase of the work revealed a wealth of features from the prehistoric through to the Roman. One of the most significant discoveries was a group of post holes, indicating the position of a roundhouse of probable Bronze Age origin. A number of pits and water holes were found in the same vicinity, and with the exception of one water hole of late Neolithic date, are probably of Bronze Age origin.
