Contour survey by D and A Graham of SyAS. The odd shape of the monument was found to be designed to take best advantage of the general slope of the land. A number of features were identified within the monument, including the likely sites of the original entrances and a number of Second World War artillery emplacements. The paths and bridleways which cross the area were found to be causing erosion of the monument in some places, and continuing tree encroachment on the site was noted as a cause for serious concern.
