Talk on the excavations at Colemore by David Quick, Chairman of Liss Archaeology

Date:
Tuesday, 3 December, 2019 - 19:30 to 21:00

David Quick, Chairman of Liss Archaeology, will talk to us on the latest excavations at Colemore.

'Colemore is a site in the west of the South Downs National Park with a fascinating buried landscape of past rural settlement.  Ten seasons of excavations, test pits, desk-based research and geophysical survey reveal a complex settlement of enclosures and habitation dating mainly to the Romano-British (RB) with glimpses of the Iron Age (IA).  Buildings include a ‘villa rustica’ with internal and external corridors, a possible tower at the southern end and known length to date being 25m+. The site has an RB fresh water management system, iron production and working plus an IA ladder style field system' (https://www.archaeology.co.uk/digs/the-colemore-project.htm).
