Reports received from Guildford Museum of fieldwork undertaken by the GMEU in previous years: 8 High Street, Guildford A watching brief during alterations led to recording of 18th century building foundations; a sherd of 12th or 13th century pottery was recovered during piling. 44 High Street, Guildford A watching brief undertaking recorded elements of the 17th century timber frame exposed during alterations to the building; these features were subsequently recorded by members of the DBRG. 46 High Street, Guildford Rapid examination of the property’s cellars during alteration works revealed little of archaeological interest. 70 High Street, Guildford An investigation of the cellar recorded chalk block walls of likely medieval date. Examination of a collapsed well shaft recovered two sherds of 14th or15th century pottery. 83 High Street, Guildford A medieval undercroft was examined during building works. 88 High Street, Guildford A watching brief and cellar survey were undertaken during refurbishment works. Walls of chalk-and-flint construction were noted in the cellar, probably indicative of a medieval construction date for the original feature. 90 High Street, Guildford A cellar was investigated during alteration works. Walls of chalk-and-flint construction were noted, suggestive of a medieval date. 103 High Street, Guildford A watching brief was carried out during alterations. A medieval wall was revealed during the excavation of a stanchion base, as well as pottery of a 13th--14th century date. 116 High Street, Guildford A survey undertaken during alterations recorded chalk block walls, possibly the remains of medieval masonry, in the cellars. The Guildhall, High Street, Guildford An investigation was carried out prior to the construction of an outbuilding. The site appeared to have been disturbed, although late medieval to early post-medieval pottery was present as residual material in later deposits. 145--147 High Street, Guildford A well shaft, revealed by soil collapse during alteration works, was noted. High Street, Guildford A watching brief was carried out on a trench excavated from approximately outside number 61 High Street, to number 170. No finds or features of archaeological interest were revealed. 6 Quarry Street, Guildford A watching brief undertaken during building work revealed evidence of alteration and addition to the 17th century building. St Nicholas Church, Guildford A watching brief was carried out during the excavations for a gas pipeline at the front of the church. No finds or features of archaeological interest were revealed. 14--15 Quarry Street, Guildford Investigation of the site prior to an application for planning consent revealed no archaeological finds or features. `Springfield’, Douglas Close, Guildford A watching brief undertaken during construction revealed no finds or features earlier than 19th century in date. 16 Buryfields, Guildford A Victorian well/soakaway was revealed following soil collapse at the rear of the property. Seiko House, Walnut Tree Close, Guildford A watching brief undertaken during demolition works observed no finds or features of archaeological interest. `Raylea’, Woodham Lane, Woking A Victorian brick structure was investigated following a soil collapse The feature was probably an icehouse.
