Woking Palace Archaeological Project.
We are now well on track to obtaining the necessary consents and funding to enable the second season of excavation to go ahead. This year the trenches will be concentrated around the standing buildings and the inner moat with the aim of sequencing and dating the main phases of the 15th and 16th century manor house and palace.
We expect to be digging on the site as follows:
Monday 12 and Tuesday 13 July, setting up and trench preparation
Wednesday 14 July to Sunday 18 July
Wednesday 21 July to Sunday 26 July (although on Saturday 24 July the site will be closed)
Tuesday 27 July to Saturday 31 July
The public Open Day will be on Sunday 1 August followed by back-filling on 2 and 3 August.
At this stage those with a minimum of five days practical experience are invited to apply to join the excavation. Please contact Richard Savage
