Building survey by G Potter of CA prior to conversion to residential premises. A range of 18th century farm outbuildings was examined in detail, with further recording works and an archaeological watching brief planned to take place in 2002.

An initial evaluation by G Potter of CA revealed archaeology of medieval and post-medieval date. A subsequent watching brief identified similar finds and features from these periods, including the ground plan of a small post-medieval cottage. Although at present only provisional dates are available, several features appear to relate to the Roman period including a significant length of ditch. A single inhumation in a square burial pit was also excavated. The skeleton has been dated to the Iron Age, and belongs to a female in her late 40s.

Building recording and watching brief carried out by G Potter of CA during residential redevelopment of the barn, adjacent cart shed, and stables. All three buildings were timber framed and of 19th century date. There was no evidence for earlier land use, the surface having apparently been reduced when the present buildings were constructed.

Watching brief by G Potter of CA during the construction of a house. Foundations relating to an early 19th century structure known from cartographic sources were revealed, together with evidence for pre-19th century subsoil and buried topsoil horizons. No remains earlier than the Post-Medieval period were encountered.

Evaluation by Geoff Potter of CA involving the excavation of six trenches. Two sherds of 11th or 12th century Medieval pottery were recovered from two ditch features in the southern part of the site, and a small fragment of 16th century decorated stove-tile (possibly from the nearby site of Oatlands Palace) in a trench to the north. The ditch features are believed to be early boundary or drainage cuts or shallow water cut channels within an agricultural landscape; and a number of narrow Post-Medieval drainage cuts observed illustrate continued farming of the site.

Watching brief by K Johnson of CA revealed alluvial silt sealing successive layers of demolition material associated with the dismantling of the abbey. No in-situ structural remains were encountered in an investigation that by design did not proceed through the complete sequence of deposits in some areas. However, a number of noteworthy finds were recorded, including twelve inlaid medieval tiles from the nationally significant Chertsey tilery, and a coin of 1603, which suggests that the demolition process on the site continued for some time following the Dissolution. Watching brief by K Johnson of CA during groundworks for the construction of a tennis court located close to the site of a Bronze Age barrow discovered and destroyed during building work in the 19th century. No remains relating to the Bronze Age were observed, but the remains of a number of 19th and 20th century glasshouses were revealed and recorded.

Watching brief by E Rowe of CA during soil stripping in advance of mineral extraction did not reveal any features or deposits of archaeological interest, but a small assemblage of prehistoric struck flint, a single sherd of abraded Roman pottery, and abraded sherds of post-medieval glazed earthenwares were recovered from the topsoil.

Watching brief maintained by G Potter of CA during the excavation of a pipe trench, and associated works, along the line of Speer Road. Two residual struck flints were recovered, but otherwise the only evidence of past activity was represented by occasional 19th and 20th century finds in reworked soils and other disturbed ground.
